The South West Net Zero Hub is pleased to announce that we are preparing to open the Great British Energy Community Fund in the South West.
The Hub will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday 4 June at 4pm for community organisations to find out more about the fund, including eligibility, the application process and time for questions.
In March the Government announced a total of £5m of funding nationally for a new round of the Great British Energy Community Fund (GBECF), previously known as the Community Energy Fund (CEF).
The Hub will receive a £1m share of the fund to support successful applicants from the region with feasibility and development of clean energy projects. We expect to close our first round of applications at noon on 7th July 2025.
The fund is available to community energy groups, town and parish councils, community organisations, sports teams, charities and faith groups to support projects that help communities generate their own clean energy, which local people can benefit from.
David Lewis, Programme Manager, South West Net Zero Hub said,
“We are really pleased to be continuing our support for community energy projects across the region for another year through the Great Bristish Energy Community Fund. The money will build on the thirty plus local projects funded in the South West so far through the previous Community Energy Fund. We know there is a demand for this type of support to help groups through feasibility and development, and we look forward to seeing the applications coming in.”
We expect the scope, guidance and application forms to be very similar to the Community Energy Fund and hope to be able to publish new guidance and forms on our website soon. In the meantime, if you are interested in applying for funding, we encourage you to:
