We are delighted to announce that eight community energy projects in the South West have been awarded funding in Window 1 of the Great British Energy Community Fund.
The successful projects received grants totalling just over £415,000 and are a mix of technologies including wind, solar hydro and energy advice.
The funding, from publicly owned energy company Great British Energy (GBE), is managed and delivered by the Hub in the South West.
The fund is to help communities take the first step to develop projects that generate clean energy, which local people can benefit from.
The successful projects are:
- Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Charity Bath – working with Bath and West Community Energy to develop a portfolio of 100% community owned rooftop solar projects on the RUH estate. Award: £40,000
- Bath and West Community Energy – A hydro / solar / battery project in Wiltshire. Award: £39,953
- Drewsteington Community Benefit Society – A rural solar / heat / retrofit project in a Devon village working closely with the National Trust. Award: £37,430
- Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) – a community owned turbine in Devon, with potential for a new Energy Local club in Buckfastleigh. Award: £40,000
- 361 Community Renewables working with Communities for Renewables, to explore the feasibility of a community owned onshore turbine in North Devon. Award: £40,000
- Frome Renewable Energy Community – an onshore wind project north of Frome. Award: £40,000
- Community Energy Plus – a Type B project, exploring development of a retrofit one stop shop for Cornwall. Award: £40,000
- Pure Leapfrog – also a Type B project, working with the Diocese of Bath and Wells to explore the feasibility of a Diocesan community energy model. Award: £40,000
