The South West Net Zero Hub has refreshed objectives to support the Government’s priorities, including the establishment of Great British Energy and the delivery of the Clean Power 2030 and Warm Homes Plan.
The objectives are outlined in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DESNZ setting out the Hub’s priorities for the coming year and the focus of our work with local authorities and communities.
Our new objectives are:
- Support the delivery of Great British Energy, Clean Power 2030 and the Warm Homes Plan
- Attract commercial investment for clean energy projects
- Develop and support clean energy projects, increasing the number and scale of projects across the region
- Support knowledge transfer to build local clean energy capability
These refreshed objectives mean that our overall remit to develop and support a pipeline of ‘investment ready’ clean energy projects remains the same. However, there will be some changes in the areas we focus on:
- Increased focus on developing energy generation projects with local authorities and community energy groups
- Increased responsibility to understand the pipeline of renewable energy projects in the region, including projects that the Hub is not involved in
- Increased emphasis on connecting local authorities with Community Energy Groups
- Increased focus on knowledge transfer to build local clean energy capability. This will mean greater support for Local Authorities through online and in-person events and through Net Zero Go.
The focus on energy generation means that we have less resource for other areas such as heat, transport and industrial decarbonisation in the short term. If you have any questions about our objectives or would like more information about how we can help please get in touch: Contact us
