Seven councils in the South West are receiving Carbon Literacy Training funded by the Hub with the aim of building capacity to transition services to Net Zero.
Carbon literacy training provides an awareness of carbon costs and impacts, as well as the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual and organisational basis.
Training will be provided to key members of the organisations:
- Officers – to achieve net zero through service delivery
- Senior leadership – to embed net zero into service decision making
- Elected members – to communicate the need for and benefits of net zero public services to residents and businesses
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy at BCP Council, said:
“There’s still a lot to be done in relation to the climate crisis. We have committed to the UK100 community of councils taking our Climate and Ecological Emergency challenge seriously, and this Carbon Literacy training is a fantastic way to give Councillors and staff at all levels of the council the tools we need to speed up getting to our target of net-zero by 2030, and for the wider community by 2045.We are grateful to the South West Net Zero hub for enabling this opportunity.”
The training has been funded by the Hub to support Local Authorities who want to develop new capacity and their own in-house Carbon Literacy training programmes. The Hub will monitor and evaluate the impact of the programme.
